Dr. Seungjin Kim, head of Purdue’s School of Nuclear Engineering, has been selected by the United Nations to offer expertise on small modular reactors, affirming Purdue’s global role in nuclear innovation.

The School of Nuclear Engineering participated in the Purdue University graduate ceremony held on Thursday, May 15th, and Friday, May 16th. On Thursday, 5 PhDs were conferred. On Friday, 6 MSNEs, 2 MNEs, and 27 BSNEs were conferred.

Hands-on learning through real-world applications is a cornerstone of the Purdue Nuclear Engineering experience. Senior students showcased their technical knowledge, innovation, and teamwork through industry-sponsored capstone projects, addressing current challenges in nuclear engineering. Purdue University's School of Nuclear Engineering is spearheading advancements in nuclear power through initiatives such as conducting pioneering experiments at Indiana’s only nuclear reactor, leading a $6 million Department of Energy-funded research project on small modular reactors (SMRs), and collaborating with Duke Energy to explore the feasibility of SMRs for the university's campus, all aimed at enhancing energy sustainability and innovation.

Engineers at Purdue University's PUR-1 reactor have conducted the first U.S. experiments of their kind, testing advanced digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, remote monitoring, and autonomous control to enhance the safety, efficiency, and lifespan of next-generation nuclear reactors

The School of Nuclear Engineering held its annual Advisory Board meeting on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, bringing together key leaders in the nuclear engineering field. This pivotal meeting serves as a platform to discuss strategic initiatives that influence the future direction of the school.

The School of Nuclear Engineering and College of Engineering co-hosted Dr.Ronald Latanision, Neil Armstrong Distinguished Visiting Professor, for a lecture on April 16, 2025. It was sponsored by the School of Nuclear Engineering for the 2024–2025 academic year and The Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering for the 2023–2024 and 2025-2026 academic years. The event took place in Forney Hall of Chemical Engineering and focused on the evolving role of technology in society.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Dr. Martin López de Bertodano, who died on February 26, 2025, at the age of 67.

The College of Engineering hosted its 2025 Graduate Student Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, to recognize the exceptional achievements of its students and faculty. Congratulations are extended to all the awardees for their outstanding contributions.
