Reaching Beyond Materials Engineering
I left Purdue in 1993 and have been a professor in mechanical and materials engineering at Washington State University (WSU) for 10 years now. I have two things—besides research— that I’m very interested in: getting undergraduates involved in research early, and letting people know about materials engineering. After a while it’s tiring to be the best-kept secret, and materials as a field definitely has its shy streak.

Keith J. Bowman named head of the School of Materials Engineering
On December 31, 2007, Keith J. Bowman will take over as head of the School of Materials Engineering. Bowman, a professor of Materials Engineering with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Engineering Education, has been with Purdue since 1988

Jeffrey Youngblood Discovers New Coating That Keeps Glass Clean and Fog-Free
Materials engineers have created a new type of coating that attracts water yet beads oils - traits that are usually mutually exclusive - promising potential applications such as "self-cleaning" eyeglasses and antifogging car windshields and ski goggles.

ASM Student Night at the Trails 2007
The Annual Senior Night Banquet was held on Tuesday, April 24th at the Trails. The highlight of the night was the presentation by Joshua Haynes, Isaac Janson, John Koppes and Ryan Ostrye entitled, "Brazing of Super Alloys" and supported by General Electric."

2006 Undergraduate Research and Poster Symposium
Three MSE undergraduate students participated in the 2006 Undergraduate Research and Poster Symposium held at the Purdue Memorial Union on April 11, 2006. Jason Burbey, Kendra Erk and Mark Oliver, all undergraduates in the School of Materials Engineering, displayed the research they have been working on this year. The Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, Science and Technology believe that research and presentation of work made up an integral part of the educational experience for the undergraduate student at Purdue University.
