Leaders from Purdue, federal government, and industry celebrated the opening of the Hypersonics and Applied Research Facility (HARF), a $41 million, 65,000-square-foot building at Zucrow Labs that is home to two cutting-edge wind tunnels – the only Mach 8 quiet wind tunnel in the world, and a hypersonic pulse (HYPULSE) reflected shock/expansion tunnel.

Purdue was well-represented at ITherm 2023, winning three paper awards and four poster awards. The Intersociety Conference on Thermal and Thermomechanical Phenomena in Electronic Systems was held in Orlando, FL in June 2023.

Ryan Blaney claimed the checkered flag in Charlotte at the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race, with Jonathan Hassler (BSME '07) atop the pit box. It's Hassler's first win for the #12 team, after being named crew chief at the beginning of last season.

Not every internship showcases your work at 200 miles per hour on national television! For Purdue mechanical engineering student Zachary Nelson, an internship with IndyCar team Juncos Hollinger Racing is making his motorsports dreams come true.

When NASA’s Orion capsule reached the Moon’s orbit in November 2022, it sent back incredible images of the lunar surface. For Nat Keammerer (BSME ’94), this was more than just a neat postcard from space. It was the culmination of 10 years of work from his team at NASA, who are responsible for the communications, computers, and camera systems of the Orion capsule.

In the U.S., data centers account for approximately 2% of total electricity consumption; a large percentage of that is for cooling high-performance microchips. Purdue University researchers have received a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop cooling systems for these microchips, making data centers more efficient and saving energy that will help mitigate climate change.

A Purdue team led by Thomas Beechem have developed a patent-pending tool to make the manufacture of ultrathin semiconductors more consistent, controllable and repeatable than traditional methods. It uses a dry-transfer process to move graphene and other ultrathin, 2D materials from the growth substrate where they are synthesized to a device substrate.
