Swimming microrobots achieve record speeds, thanks to microscale 3D printing

A robot traveling at 2 millimeters per second doesn't sound particularly fast. But when that robot is the width of a human hair, it becomes record-breaking! Purdue University researchers created the speedy swimming robots using microscale 3D printing, enabling multi-material microrobots to be fabricated with hydrogel tails that adapt to their environment.

Winning senior design project helps people with neuropathy learn to walk again

A team of Purdue mechanical engineering students have developed a novel system to deal with neuropathy, which causes patients to lose feeling in their feet, making them unable to walk. By attaching sensors to the shoe, connected wirelessly to a band around the leg, users can re-train their brain to "feel" the ground beneath them. The team won the Malott Innovation Awards, given to the best senior design project of the spring 2023 semester.
