First-Year Engineering Program Names New Director
Teri Reed-Rhoads, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education in the College of Engineering and Associate Professor of Engineering Education, will lead the program, which serves more than 1,700 students each year.

Gary Horlacher Named NASA Flight Director
A 1989 Purdue graduate in interdisciplinary engineering (a program now part of the School of Engineering Education), Horlacher is one of 28 active space shuttle and space station flight directors, including those in training. Only 77 people have served as NASA flight directors, or are in training to do so, in the nearly 50 years of human space flight.

Michele Strutz Receives ASEE Honorable Mention
Strutz, a Purdue doctoral student in gifted education specializing in engineering education, was honored at the American Society for Engineering Education's Illinois/Indiana section conference for the paper "A Retrospective Study of Skills, Traits, Influences, and School Experiences of Talented Engineers."

One of four honorees chosen for Purdue's 2008 Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award, Verleger will be recognized at a banquet for the Celebration of Graduate Student Teaching on April 17.

Robin Adams and Monica Cardella Chosen for 2008 Journal of Engineering Education Best Paper Award
The American Society for Engineering Education will honor these ENE faculty members and their co-authors with the William Elgin Wickenden Award for the journal article Engineering Design Processes: A Comparison of Students and Expert Practitioners at the organization's annual conference this June.
