ECE Prof. Sunil Bhave has received $35,000 in funding from the Trask Innovation Fund to help move his “Wafer Level Vacuum Packaging for Opto-mechanical Devices" through the commercialization pipeline. The technology uses micro-electro-mechanical systems for inertial navigation when conventional GPS signals are not feasible.

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) announces plans to build a 100,000-square-foot facility for electric power research in the Purdue Discovery Park District designed to support up to 300 new high-tech jobs. In addition, Purdue ECE alumnus Edmund O. Schweitzer III, and his wife, Beatriz Schweitzer, will donate $3-million in funds to support this pipeline of innovation at Purdue.

Purdue researchers collaborated in a Rice University-led study detecting a quantum shift that results from the strong coupling of light and an ultra-high mobility two-dimensional electron gas rotating in opposite directions. A Purdue University-affiliated startup has devised a way to map arteries in the roof of a person’s mouth to help avoid complications and improve outcomes in oral surgery. The process was created by ECE Prof. Kevin Webb and alumnus Brian Bentz.

MR-Link LLC of West Lafayette has secured the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I grant of $228,325 from the National Institutes of Health to develop an affordable device to allow more efficient MRI scans. ECE Prof. Zhongming Liu and grad student Nishant Babaria are two of the company's founders.
