Julie Liu, a faculty member in Purdue University's Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, has been inducted into the 2026 AIMBE College of Fellows—an honor reserved for the top 2% of engineers in the field—alongside three other Purdue Engineering faculty members.
Induction into the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer. This honor recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and medical research, practice, or education and those who have pioneered new and developing fields of technology.
Liu was honored for her work in biomimetic materials, cartilage engineering, and protein-engineered adhesives. Her advances and innovations in tissue repair and regenerative medicine reinforce the Davidson School’s leadership in interdisciplinary research.
“I’m honored to be inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows,” said Liu. “This recognition reflects the collaborative efforts of my students, colleagues and research partners. Our work aims to develop biomimetic materials that can improve how we repair and regenerate human tissue, and it’s exciting to see that impact recognized at this level.”
The new Fellows were formally inducted during the AIMBE Annual Event on April 13, 2026, in Washington, D.C., where they join an elite group of researchers, including Nobel Prize laureates and recipients of the Presidential Medal of Science.
AIMBE is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., representing the most accomplished individuals in the fields of medical and biological engineering. Its mission is to provide leadership and advocacy in medical and biological engineering for the benefit of society.
