Dhruv Garg | Mechanical Engineering

Co-Founder and CEO, Kangaroo

In less than two years after graduating from Purdue, Dhruv Garg was invited to work on a special team at Google developing cutting-edge projects for then-CEO Larry Page. He produced early concepts for urban infrastructure and transportation tech and worked on "moonshot" internal projects, including floating cities and bridges and new methods of housing construction.

Next, he joined an e-commerce startup, Mohawk Group Inc., as vice president of R&D. There, he developed AI software and built a rapid prototyping lab and a team of multidisciplinary engineers to bring consumer products to market and experiment with revolutionary new items such as 3D printers and long-term food storage appliances. Post-launch, he was directly responsible for profit and loss, and the company brought 30+ SKUs to market, selling well over 2,500 units per day. The team grew by nine times and cleared $70 million in revenue.

His next venture was completely his own - building home security for the underserved. He is the co-founder and CEO of Kangaroo, a mass market connected IoT (Internet of Things) home security company. With this startup, Garg set out to lower the cost of coverage to tens of dollars (vs. thousands of dollars per year for traditional systems) by designing and building low-cost hardware devices coupled with an industry first - package theft coverage. Close to one million people across the United States and Australia have been protected from fire, theft, and flooding and have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen package costs. Kangaroo products are sold at Walmart, Best Buy, Walgreens, Lowes, and other major retailers.
