Brooke Beier | Biomedical Engineering
Senior Vice President, Purdue Innovates, Purdue Research Foundation
After earning three biomedical engineering degrees from Purdue, Brooke Beier didn't have to look any further than her alma mater when she started her career. Through the Purdue Research Foundation, she has experienced a rapid acceleration of leadership responsibilities. She was promoted six times within 10 years, culminating in her current position as senior vice president of Purdue Innovates, which launched in 2022. In this role, she shepherded a new addition, Purdue Innovates.
Purdue Innovates serves as the unified front door to commercialization and entrepreneurship at Purdue University, streamlining access to resources that help transform groundbreaking research into real-world impact. Rooted in Purdue's legacy of discovery and talent and powered by an ecosystem that fuels creativity, capital, and community, Purdue Innovates empowers faculty, students, and alumni to turn inventions and startup visions into reality.
One new initiative under the umbrella of Purdue Innovates is the Purdue Innovates Incubator, which, in its first year, engaged with 200+ Purdue-connected startups to assist in their creation and scaling. She successfully monetized the royalty stream from the drug Pluvicto for more than $100 million, introduced the Purdue Innovates Accelerator that has generated 71 Purdue-connected startup applications for five available spots, and instituted the Purdue Innovates Commercialization Fellows to retain recent Purdue PhD graduates to de-risk Purdue IP for licensing to industry or creating startups.
Under Beier's guidance, the Purdue Innovates Office of Technology Commercialization has executed more than 1,500 licenses for Purdue IP, encompassing 2,300+ Purdue technologies; secured 1,700+ issued U.S. patents, ranking Purdue in the top 5 in the country among universities for five years running; generated $230 million+ in licensing income; and brought 80+ new products to market.
In 2024, she earned the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership Foundation Faculty Commercialization Award. She also has been a certified licensing professional since 2020 and served as a leader for the Bayh-Dole Coalition.
