Machine Learning and Polymers: Machine learning-driven experimental design of thermoplastic starch film.

Instructor:

  • Andres Tovar
  • Description:

Most plastics are derived from non-renewable fossil fuels, leading to significant pollution and environmental harm. As an alternative, compostable plastics like thermoplastic starch (TPS) have emerged as a potential solution to mitigate plastic pollution. Students working on this project will apply machine learning-driven strategies to discover and optimize TPS formulations. The focus of this work is to develop TPS films with tailored strength and elongation at break.
