Two staff members from the School of Nuclear Engineering received a Bravo Award from Purdue University. Nuclear Electronics Technician, David Storz and Secretary, Teresa Luse both received the award for their excellence in workplace performance.

School of Nuclear Engineering Assistant Professor, Janelle Wharry will receive nearly $1.6 million for two projects thanks to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy University Programs (NEUP).

During the month of May, two NE faculty members lead groups of students on separate study abroad opportunities that not only provided an extensive list of educational benefits but also exposure to different sites and cultures.

Janelle Wharry, assistant professor of nuclear engineering, has been selected to receive a Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities. This prestigious award provides seed money for research by junior faculty at ORAU member institutions with the intention to enrich the quality of research and professional growth of young faculty.

NE Assistant Professor, Allen Garner, in collaboration with Eagle Harbor Technologies Inc., has received funding from NASA to pursue research in developing a precision eddy-current sensor for nondestructive evaluation of spacecraft structures.

Seungjin Kim, the Capt. James F. McCarthy, Jr. and Cheryl E. McCarthy Head of the School of Nuclear Engineering, has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Nuclear Energy Advisory Committee (NEAC).

With the University’s launch of Purdue Global and the growing trend in online course offerings, the School of Nuclear Engineering has established its first online nuclear engineering course, NUCL 501.

Distinguished members from nuclear engineering industry, national laboratories, government, and academia recently met as selected members of the School of Nuclear Engineering Advisory Board. The board directly impacts the success of our educational and research programs and is one of the most important committees for the School. We are extremely thankful to our members for their guidance for the continued success of our programs.

During the 2017-18 academic year, 11 alumni of the School of Nuclear Engineering who have forged successful careers in the nuclear industry, national labs, government, and academia visited campus to talk with students during a weekly seminar series.
