MSE Senior Places 2nd in National Speaking Contest

Kendra Erk, senior in the School of Materials Engineering, recently was nominated to speak at the Undergraduate Student Speaking Contest, which was held during the Materials Science and Technology 2005 Conference and Exhibition in Pittsburgh, PA this fall.

This student speaking contest has been held for many years as part of the American Ceramic Society Annual Meeting. The contest has been considered by many people to be one of the highlights of the ACerS Annual Meeting, and that reputation was upheld this year when Kendra spoke. Kendra's presentation was entitled "Grain boundary grooving of yttria-stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coatings." It was a culmination of her work with Professor Rodney Trice for the past year (2004-2005) and was the subject of a recently submitted article for The Journal of The American Ceramic Society.

Congratulations Kendra. You make our school proud!
