Faculty Promotions and Awards

There have been several recent promotions and awrads to faculty in MSE.

Promotions

Rodney Trice, School of Materials Engineering, was recently promoted to Associate Professor. This promotion was approved by the Faculty Promotions Committee and by the Purdue Board of Trustees on April 7, 2006. Professor Trice has been with Purdue since 2000 teaching and conducting research. Professor Trice's research interests include: Novel thermal spray techniques to create nanostructured coatings High temperature mechanical properties of thermal barrier coatings Microstructural design of plasma-sprayed coatings Effect of Impurities on Phase Stability and Mechanical Response of Thermal Barrier Coatings Pressureless Sintering of High Temperature Structural Ceramics including ZrB2, HfB2, and TaB2. For more information on Professor Trice and his research, go to his faculty web page. For more information on faculty promotions, go to Purdue Promotions.

Congratulations to Professor David Johnson. The Board of Trustees of Purdue University approved Professor Johnson's nomination to be promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Materials Engineering, effective August 16, 2004.

Congratulations to Professor Matthew Krane. The Board of Trustees of Purdue University approved the nomination of Professor Krane to be promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Materials Engineering, and was effective August 18, 2003.

Awards

Professor Keith Bowman was inducted into "The Book of Great Teachers" at Purdue University on Thursday, August 28, 2003. The ceremony was held at the Park Grounds at the Bell Tower. This book bears the names of those men and women of the faculty who have devoted their lives to excellence in teaching and scholarship. They were chosen by their students and their peer as Purdue's finest educators. Congratulations Professor Bowman and thank you for your dedication to students everywhere.

Professor Mysore Dayananda has been selected as the winner of the first annual Schools of Engineering Faculty Awards for Engagement and Service. He has performed over 200 excellent projects during the past five years, and has mentored and supported numerous students. An awards banquet will be held on March 8, 2003, to honor Professor Dayananda.

Professor Trice is one of 7 national young researcher award recipients from NSF at Purdue. This is the most prestigious honor for outstanding young researchers. Professor Trice will use his grant to study how extremely high temperatures alter the structure of thermal barrier coatings that are critical to turbine engines for aircraft and power plants. The yttria stabilized zirconia coatings that insulate engine parts from high heat have been used in jet engines since the 1970's. When they are subjected to the extremely high heat inside turbine engines, they are rendered less effective. Professor Trice will aim at solving the problem. [Taken from Inside Purdue Newspaper].
