Astronauts speak live at commencement

Purdue alums Scott Tingle and Drew Feustel spoke live from the International Space Station to Purdue's commencement on Friday, May 11. Scott bestowed an honorary doctorate on Drew, after which they floated out of sight. This is the 10th space mission to feature at least two Purdue University astronauts.

Purdue wins 30th anniversary Rube Goldberg Machine Contest

Purdue Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) won first place at the 2018 Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. Purdue's American Society of Mechanical Engineers team (ASME) finished third. This year's task -- to build a complex and whimsical machine to perform the simplest of tasks -- was to pour a bowl of cereal.

Purdue hosts 2018 Collegiate Drone Racing Championship

The 2nd annual Collegiate Drone Racing Championship flew into Purdue University on Saturday, April 14. More than 64 pilots attended the event at Lambert Fieldhouse, from 20 different universities across the country. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University dominated the event, with their Daytona Beach, Florida team finishing 1st, and their Prescott, Arizona campus finishing 3rd. University of Central Florida finished 2nd.

PathVis a finalist for Fast Company award

PathVis, the mobile pathology lab developed by Purdue University Mechanical Engineering and Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, is a finalist for Fast Company's 2018 World Changing Ideas Awards. Using a smartphone, PathVis can detect cholera in a water sample in just 30 minutes, rather than the 3 days of traditional tests.
