David DeWitt: Pioneer of Heat Transfer
Professor David DeWitt (1934-2005) came to Purdue University as a graduate student in the early 1960s. He became a professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue, teaching for more than 25 years. He is best known for co-authoring (with colleague Frank Incropera) Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer, the definitive undergraduate textbook on the subject, now in its 8th edition and utilized worldwide. This weekend, his family returned to campus to pay tribute to Prof. DeWitt, establishing the Professor David P. DeWitt Heat Transfer Research Endowment.
