These fellows are now Fellows! Andrew Violette and Dylan Lurk have each received $10,000 as the first ever Purdue Engineering Fellows.

Andres Arrieta has won the 2019 Best Paper Award from ASME's Aerospace Division, Bioinspired Smart Materials and Systems Technical Committee, awarded in September in Louisville, KY. The paper describes how Arrieta and colleagues from ETH Zurich duplicated the bi-stable folding wing shape of an earwig.

Amy Ross (BSME '94, MSME '96) has worked for NASA since she was a co-op student at Purdue. She designed the gloves used by every spacewalking astronaut in the last 20 years. Now, NASA has unveiled her new design for the suits that will protect the first woman on the moon, as part of the Artemis program. Ray Ewry, an 1897 Mechanical Engineering graduate, overcame polio, and became the first Big Ten athlete to ever win an Olympic gold medal. He set a world record by high-jumping 1.65m (5' 5") from a standing start! We're honoring his accomplishments by creating the Ray Ewry Sports Engineering Center, a collaboration with Purdue Athletics and the International Olympic Committee.

Astronaut Jerry Ross (BSME '70, MSME '72) was honored with a corn maze near his hometown of Crown Point, Indiana. Ross served on seven Space Shuttle missions and conducted nine spacewalks.
