Purdue students to race solar car 'Navitas' in Shell Eco-marathon

Students from Purdue University will race a new solar car this week in an international competition to create the most fuel-efficient vehicles. The car, Navitas, was designed and built entirely by students and will compete in the Shell Eco-marathon Americas 2013 from Friday (April 5) to Sunday (April 7) in Houston.

Multidisciplinary research leading to clean, efficient, fuel-flexible vehicles

The Hoosier Heavy Hybrid Center of Excellence (H3CoE) at Purdue was funded with a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Graduate Automotive Technology Education initiative. The goal is aimed at cutting fuel consumption in half for commercial vehicles by perfecting hybrid technologies for the world’s burgeoning bus and truck fleets, according to ME professor Gregory Shaver, the center's co-director and principal investigator.
