Purdue ME grad students receive fellowships and scholarships
Mina Lee: 2025 Ben M. Hillberry Graduate Scholarship
The Ben M. Hillberry Graduate Scholarship is sponsored by the students and friends of Professor Ben M. Hillberry in honor of his years of dedication to the School of Mechanical Engineering. The scholarship is for ME graduate students with a preference for students studying in biomechanics or materials. This year's recipient, Mina Lee, works with Alex Chortos on magneto-active actuators, soft robotics and bio-integrated technologies.
Debanjali Chatterjee: 2025 R.H. Kohr Fellowship
The R. H. Kohr Graduate Student Fellowship in Mechanical Engineering is funded by the R. H. Kohr Educational Memorial Fund in memory of Mechanical Engineering professor Dr. Robert Kohr, who died in a plane crash in 1969. The Fellowship supports ME graduate students in the general areas of simulation, which was Dr. Kohr’s main field of academic interest. This year's recipient, Debanjali Chatterjee, works with Partha Mukherjee on electrochemical energy storage and conversion.
Sheng Huang and Li-Fan Wu: 2025 Richard C. Chu Memorial Scholarship
Richard C. Chu Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduate students pursuing advanced studies in the school, with a preference for students that completed an undergraduate degree from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan.
- Sheng Huang is a PhD student who works with Andres Arrieta on multistable materials and multistable structures for energy harvesting.
- Li-Fan Wu is a Ph.D. student advised by Nina Mahmoudian working on robotics in challenging environments.
Ford Lynch, Sewon Park, Raghav Poddar: 2025 Warren and Judy Stevenson Graduate Scholarship

The Warren and Judy Stevenson Graduate Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering encourages mechanical engineering graduate students to study and pursue research in areas related to applied optics.
- Ford Lynch is a PhD student working with Guillermo Paniagua on experimental assessment of a high-pressure turbine test rig.
- Sewon Park is a PhD student working with Jong Hyun Choi on switchable photochromic materials; physical analysis on ferroelectic organic materials; and TMD supercapacitors.
- Raghav Poddar works with Chris Goldenstein on laser diagnostics and non-equilibrium gases relevant to planetary entry.
Kasandra Rea-Padilla and Gurman Singh: 2025 Pollard Family Scholarships for Mechanical Engineering Students
The Pollard Family Scholarship is intended for students in their ninth semester. This year's recipients, Kasandra Rea and Gurman Singh, are Professional Master's students in Indianapolis.
