Innovation in Motion: Purdue AI Racing – Featuring Dalseong Yoon

Dalseong Yoon

Dalseong Yoon’s road to Purdue AI Racing started with graduate research on vibration control for everything from sedans to wheel loaders. “Throughout this research, I discovered that developing control algorithms was particularly fascinating to me,” he says. That discovery propelled him into a PhD focused on vehicle control systems and ultimately into Purdue AI Racing, where every line of code has real-world speed stakes.

Today Yoon heads the simulation team, updating the current simulator while engineering the next one from scratch. He pairs that work with doctoral research on model-based nonlinear control for racing vehicles. Looking ahead, Yoon believes physical AI can significantly reduce the physical demands and dangers of certain jobs, ultimately allowing people more time to enjoy life. “Physical AI has the power to transform the way we live and work, creating safer environments and giving people more freedom to pursue what matters most,” Yoon says.
