Assistant Professor Wenzhuo Wu mentored a former student in creating a new source for renewable energy – footstep power. Student researcher Swarnav Pujari describes the novel device: “It’s called the Power Pad; it’s a square-foot sized device to cover any moderate to heavy-traffic location and generates electricity.”
Students in the IE 431 Senior Design class wrapped up their last semester by presenting their company project posters in an inaugural poster exhibition on April 28, 2016. Representatives from 16 different companies attended and enjoyed interacting with the students and reviewing the nine posters on display. Many IE undergrads where able to see what types of projects they will be involved with in the future.
At a dinner and awards ceremony on April 21, 2016, Purdue IE celebrated undergraduate scholarship recipients – and many students had an opportunity to meet their scholarship donors.
First-year graduate student Audrey Reinert was selected for the inaugural FAA Center of Excellence Partnership to Enhance General Aviation Safety, Accessibility, and Sustainability PEGASAS Summer Fellows program. Students, staff and faculty from PEGASAS universities will work with FAA researchers to further advance aircraft and airport safety and other technical areas related to General Aviation.
The Purdue Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE)* Ambassadors entered and won first place in the annual Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers Industry Advisory Board (IISE IAB) YouTube Video Contest. This is a national contest in which any IISE student chapter may submit a video highlighting the major “to excite high school students to select Industrial & Systems Engineering as a profession”.
Three undergrad IE students competed in the 2016 “Beautify Grissom” painting competition. Launched by the Purdue chapter of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) in 2013, students compete yearly by painting what IE means to them.
The Purdue Industrial Engineering Graduate Student Organization (IEGSO) held its annual Research Symposium on April 21 in Grissom Hall. The symposium included a graduate student poster competition and a panel discussion with two IE alumni.
