Students present posters for IE431 capstone projects
This semester, 36 Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering teams participated in capstone projects through the IE431 Senior Design course. The teams recently presented their posters at the Capstone Poster Session.
The students showcased their work at the IE 431 Poster Session & Company Day on April 14th at the Co-Rec. Thirty-six projects, each involving the collaborative work of five or more students, were featured in the Co-Rec’s Black and Gold gym. Projects came from a wide variety of industries working with companies from all over the United States. Teams competed for top prizes and the People’s Choice Award.
The IE431 Spring Capstone Poster Session was a remarkable event, highlighting the ingenuity and hard work of the students. This year's session featured a diverse array of projects, each demonstrating the students' ability to tackle real-world problems with innovative solutions.
Team 33 (Shutterfly.com), who earned the first place award at the poster session.
The first-place award went to Team 33 for their work with Shutterfly, which focused on developing a more accurate customer promise experience. The team was tasked with making customer promises (expectation of order delivery) more accurate, delivering a better customer experience.
Team 20, who worked with Nymbis, LLC, earned second-place for their project. The scope of their project was to define a conceptual MAPS production system from subcomponents through final assembly. The team worked to translate production logic, workflows, and material flows into a digital environment, through the use of Isaac Sim.

Students from team 20 accept the second-place award during the session.
Team 7, who earned third-place, worked with Boeing on a final assembly rollout & parking optimization project. The team worked to determine optimal move sequence based on a number of factors in order to minimize the amount of line moves required.

Team 2 was honored with the People's Choice Award. This honor goes to the team that earns the most text-in votes by attendees. Their project was with Bruegmann LLC, in conjunction with 7-11 stores based in Saginaw, MI. The goal was to evaluate the operational and sales impact of replacing peg hooks with pushers for bagged candy, salty snacks, and jerky products.

This year's winners and honorees are a perfect example of the diversity of areas in which industrial engineers can make an immediate impact.
