Global Engineering Studies Minor

Show what you know to potential employers! Be part of the most awarded minor in the College of Engineering, the Global Engineering Studies Minor (GESM). This minor is not like most academic minors, it is an experiential learning minor designed to document your participation in programs and coursework that help you become a global engineer.

If you have been accepted to the GEARE program and successfully fulfill their criteria, you will earn the GESM. Please visit the GEARE page to look at the criteria.

If you were enrolled as a GEARE student, but were not able to complete all of the GEARE program requirements, please look at the OTHER STUDENTS section to learn more about how you can earn the GESM.

This minor is available to all Engineering (ENGR) students who meet the criteria outlined below. If you are currently enrolled in the GEARE program, you can also earn this minor, provided you fulfill the requirements for that program. If you were previously enrolled in GEARE but were unable to complete all the program criteria, you still have the opportunity to earn the GESM minor as long as you meet the following requirements.

For

CORE COURSE CRITERIA (4 CREDITS TOTAL)

ENGR 31000 - Engineering in Global Context (3 credit-hours)

OR

ENE 55400 - Globalization and Engineering (3 credit-hours; instructor approval needed)

AND

ENGR 497: 1- credit GESM capstone class; taken during your senior year.

NOTE: you need a grade of “C” or better in all courses that are counted toward the minor.

 

GLOBAL ENGINEERING EXPERIENCES - GEEs (2 or 3 TOTAL)

Choose a minimum of two (2) and up to three (3) global engineering experiences (GEE).

*If you only complete a total of two (2) GEEs, you will need to add one (1) general global experience.

*If you are considering a LEAP, visit the Engineering Study Abroad Course Equivalency Database to find previously approved courses worldwide.

GENERAL GLOBAL EXPERIENCE (1 TOTAL when applicable)

There are several options of culture-general global experiences and courses.
