An ENE research group's video depicting the evolution of the "Frontiers in Education" community over the past decade debuted at this year's FIE conference in Washington, DC. Led by faculty member Krishna Madhavan, researchers used the tool *Interactive Knowledge Networks for Engineering Education Research* to synthesize data as a network flow.

The five-year grant funds the study "Learning From Small Numbers: Using the Personal Narratives of Underrepresented Students to Promote Institutional Change in Engineering Education."

Drawing 130 participants to Seaside, Oregon, on August 11-13, the summit featured teachers, researchers, representatives from private foundations and governmental agencies, and U.S. Congressman David Wu. INSPIRE is ENE's Institute for P-12 Engineering Research and Learning.

Purzer will present the paper "Does Context Matter? Engineering Students' Approaches to Global vs. Local Problems" at the Frontiers in Education annual conference this October in Arlington, Virginia.

The course, offered to high school students through Purdue's Gifted Education Resource Institute, teaches engineering design through the creation of wacky, Rube Goldberg–style machines—in this case, a device for watering a cactus in Arizona and another for creating a music video featuring the theme song to The Big Bang Theory.
