First-Year Engineering Data Learning Community Hosts Jennifer Lyons

First-Year Engineering's Engineering in the World of Data Learning Community hosted Jennifer Lyons, data designer at Evergreen Data, yesterday. They attended her Dawn or Doom session "Presenting Data Effectively: Practical Methods for Improving Evaluation Communication" to learn about her work to bring creative energy to making data intriguing and impactful while helping clients transform the way they communicate their story.

Somerset’s John Babb receives Navy’s second highest civilian award

Somerset resident John Babb has received the second highest civilian award that the U.S. Navy presents. The Superior Civilian Service Award was presented to Babb Oct. 1 at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island, where Babb works as a customer advocate on submarine concept design and mentors young people.

Dr. Menekse Awarded Prestigious Research Grant by the Institute of Education Sciences

Dr. Muhsin Menekse, along with Drs. Ala Samarapungavan and Diane Litman, has been awarded a prestigious research grant of $1.4 million by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) through the U.S. Department of Education to enhance undergraduate STEM education by integrating mobile learning technologies with Natural Language Processing (NLP). Dr. Menekse received one of only 8 new research grants awarded for 2018 by the Institute of Education Sciences’ Postsecondary and Adult Education Program.

Graduate Student Richard Aleong Receives Walk the Talk Award

The Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance has announced the recipients of the 2018 Walk the Talk Award. The annual award is intended to recognize faculty, staff and students for their outstanding dedication to the University's Statement of Integrity and Code of Conduct. Individuals receiving this award exemplify strong ethical character in their dealings with others, champion ethical practices or programs, or apply personal values in a manner that demonstrates integrity and high standards of excellence.

We were fortunate to have so many types of awards that they can be divided into five groups: research, service, teaching, special university awards, and national awards.
