Ethan Adams, a third-year Ph.D student in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, has received the Department of Defense (DOD) Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship for his research on low-temperature batteries. This highly prestigious award will provide Ethan with full tuition, a stipend, summer internships, and a full-time position with the DOD Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Philadelphia where he also completed a summer internship in 2021.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift of global attention to human health, the amount of plastic waste being produced has increased tremendously. In order to combat this imminent plastic pandemic, a team of Purdue research scientists led by Professor Vilas Pol in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, undergraduate researcher Abhimanyu Raj Shekhar and collaborators came together to develop countermeasures against plastic waste production.

Doraiswami Ramkrishna, the Harry Creighton Peffer Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, is the 2021 recipient of the William H. Walker Award for Excellence in Contributions to Chemical Engineering Literature.

On December 3, the Purdue University Board of Trustees ratified two Davidson School of Chemical Engineering professor positions. Jeffrey Greeley was named the Charles D. and Nancy G. Davidson Professor of Chemical Engineering and Zoltan Nagy was named the Arvind Varma Professor of Chemical Engineering.
