Fabio Ribeiro, W. Nicholas and Elizabeth H. Delgass Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, Director of the NSF Engineering Research Center, CISTAR, and Co-Director of LEAPS has recently been honored with the AIChE R. H. Wilhelm Award in Chemical Reaction Engineering.

Continuing its tradition of innovation and academic rigor, the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering saw many of its students engage in lab research, internships, and study abroad experiences to enhance their education over the summer. Among them, three standout students made a significant impact across the United States.

Gintaras Reklaitis, the Burton and Kathryn Gedge Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, will be honored with the Founders Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Chemical Engineering by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

Austin Choi, a fourth-year Ph.D student in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, has received the Department of Defense (DOD) Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship for his research on battery materials tailored for specific defense applications. This prestigious scholarship provides Choi with full tuition coverage, annual stipends, internships, and guaranteed civilian employment with the DOD, specifically at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division.

The sixth class of Purdue Engineering Fellows was announced during a ceremony on Sept. 9 at Fowler Hall. Robert H. Buckman (BSChE ’59) and wife Joyce A. Mollerup, made an initial gift six years ago for this initiative. They wanted to open windows of opportunity for special engineering students who make a difference and deserve to be celebrated.
