Lyles School of Civil Engineering senior Tianlong Sun chose civil engineering because he wanted to make a difference and help create a more sustainable world. Since coming to Purdue from Beijing, China, Tianlong has made great strides toward his goal — and also finds time to make new friends and play bass guitar in the Purdue Jazz Guitar Ensemble.

Purdue Civil Engineering undergrad Darryl Sexton earned his first degree in computer information systems in 2000. However, after a few years into his career, Darryl said he knew there was something else out there for him. And, thanks to a documentary on some of the world's biggest structures, Darryl discovered what he truly wanted to pursue and where he would go to earn his second degree.

Ever since a visit to the Sears Tower as a child, Purdue Civil Engineering undergrad Cassie McKee knew she wanted to be a civil engineer. Cassie is also an accomplished trumpet player and is a member of the world renown Purdue All-American Marching Band.

Lyles School of Civil Engineering undergrad Whitney Weidenbenner wants to be a "water super hero" and came to Purdue for her hero training.

Lyles School of Civil Engineering undergraduate Carlos "Charlie" Tamayo has been interested in science and engineering ever since he was a child. At Purdue, Charlie knew he wanted to pursue a career in civil engineering and make a lasting impact on the world.

Lyles School of Civil Engineering undergraduate student Annie Chen chose her major because she enjoys the idea of building and seeing her ideas take physical form. She is also involved in several student groups on campus and has interned for some of the biggest companies in the world.

Lyles School of Civil Engineering undergraduate student Mia Sheppard says she wants to use her education to help shape the world. "I chose civil engineering because I wanted to make an impact and really make a difference when I graduate," she said. "I know Purdue Civil Engineering will give me the education, skills, and connections necessary to succeed."
