Mar is a current Ph.D. student in Astrodynamics and Space Applications with Professor Kathleen Howell as her advisor.   Mar has been an instructor of Spanish since she started at grad school at Purdue and has been awarded the School of Languages and Cultures 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award.

The diploma states   "In recognition of a sustained record of excellence in teaching and other significant contributions to our students". The selection process is quite complex and over 70 instructors from all languages were consider for the award.
