AAE alumnus Dr. John Schmisseur Ph.D.'97 has been honored as Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Dr. John SchmisseurDr. John Schmisseur has been honored as Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The distinction of Fellow is conferred by AIAA upon outstanding members of the Institute who have made notable and valuable contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics.

Dr. John Schmisseur received his Ph.D. from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1997, performing his graduate research under the guidance of Professors Schneider and Collicott. 

Since 2001 he has been the Program Manager for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research aerothermodynamics and Turbulence portfolio, where he is responsible for the strategic development, execution and reporting of Air Force sponsored research in high-speed flows. He is currently the Chair of the AIAA Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee.

AIAA is the world’s largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession. With more than 35,000 individual members worldwide, and 90 corporate members, AIAA brings together industry, academia, and government to advance engineering and science in aviation, space, and defense.

Presentation of the new Fellows and Honorary Fellows will take place at the AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, in Washington, D.C.
