Prof. James Garrison has been appointed the editor-in-chief of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Magazine. The publication informs readers of activities in the IEEE GRS Society, its technical committees and chapters.

Graduate student Geoffrey Andrews won second place in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Individual Aircraft Design Competition. The challenge in the competition was to design a multi-mission amphibian aircraft capable of both passenger and cargo missions.

AAE alumna Mar Vaquero has been featured in a Washington Post story called “How to steer a spacecraft into Saturn.” The article discusses the billion-dollar spacecraft named Cassini, which was launched during the tenure of Bill Clinton and arrived at Saturn in the first term of George W. Bush.

A reception and ceremony were held on Friday (Oct. 6) to celebrate ratified distinguished and named professors and administrators at Purdue for their many accomplishments and successes. The event took place in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall.

Kevin Sheridan and Austin Williams, students at the Purdue College of Engineering, School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, completed internships over the summer at Aerotronic LLC, an Indianapolis-based company developing and manufacturing drones and other unmanned aerial systems.

Jonathan Poggie, an associate professor of aeronautics and astronautics, and his team were selected for the competitive Frontier Award of supercomputer hours. The award enables science and technology research that would not be possible without extraordinary computer resources.

The new Maurice J. Zucrow Laboratories expansion dedication is set for 1-2:30 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 22). Speakers include John Philo, graduate assistant at Zucrow Lab; Mung Chiang, John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering; and Purdue President Mitch Daniels.

Pure speed is the goal behind updates and improvements on the Purdue Hyperloop pod ready to compete in the upcoming SpaceX Hyperloop competition in California. Led by AAE student, Aaron Pikus, team members left this week for the competition, which begins next week and ends on Sunday, August 27. Working with students from Universitat Politecnica de Valencia and ME professor, Guillermo Paniagua, this is the is second Hyperloop competition for Purdue.
