The Purdue Board of Trustees on Thursday (June 21) unanimously selected Indiana Gov. Mitchell E. Daniels Jr. to be the university's next president.

Daniels will start in January at the conclusion of his second term as governor. He will be Purdue's 12th president, succeeding France A. Córdova, who will step down July 15.

Venkat Ayyaswamy has been awarded the Ph.D. Dissertation Award and is now the AAE nominee for the Chorafas Foundation Award.

An interactive sculpture of the planetary system, about a football field in length, will crown a new mall at the south end of Purdue's Discovery Park.

Lt. Col. Reid Vander Schaaf (US Army), Program Manager Enhanced C2BMC, visited Purdue on 1 May 2012. He came to meet with students and faculty involved on a project funded by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA)

This prestigious award is given by AIAA every four years for excellence in aerospace materials, structural design, structural analysis, or structural dynamics. The citation reads "For pioneering developments in damage tolerant design in composite structural mechanics and for seminal contributions to academic programs in composite structures and materials."
